Paper for sketching. Do not get fancy here. Simple all-purpose paper is good. I have kept the samples at 8 1/2" x 11". However, the size is optional, and if you desire to make the dimensions larger, adjust all the paper sizes.
Tracing paper. Match the size you choose for sketching
Pencils and erasers
Pens of assorted colors (mostly fine points). Include black.
Ruler (optional)
Scissors (not your favorite)
Steam-a-Seam 2. It does not matter which weight of Steam-a-Seam 2 you use, but you must make certain it is tacky on both sides (hence the number 2 in the name).
Assorted pieces of fabric. This is a good chance to use up those leftovers you have been unable to throw away.
Muslin for the foundation.
A work surface that can be propped up for viewing. Perhaps a piece of cork board (which can be ironed on), or a piece of foam board (which cannot be ironed on). Both can be stabbed with pins. Either should be large enough to contain the desired finished dimensions (plus a little extra). You could also cover a piece of corrugated cardboard with batting or felt.
